Allow Otto FMS to Run Deployment While Server Is In Trial Mode

Currently in Otto FMS it is not possible to run a deployment while a FileMaker server is on a trial licence. I can understand why you would want to prevent Otto from running a deployment if the target server does not have a valid licence.

In my use can when a new customer signs up to our vertical market product we request new FileMaker license from claris, spin up a new server for them and deploy a copy of our solution onto that server.

It can take a number of days for Claris to issue new licences. Currently I have to manually copy our solution onto the new server. I would be nice to be able to run an Otto deployment while the server is in the initial 30 day trial mode, while waiting for Claris to issue the licences cert file.

While it would be possible to include a copy of our solution in the disk image for the server, but this would require updating this image every time we update our solution. I would much prefer to manage the deployment of the latest stable build from Otto.

Is there a technical or legal reason why this would not be possible?

Hey Gabe,

This is a limitation of FileMaker Server not OttoFMS. The Admin API doesn’t work with a trial license. If it did, then OttoFMS would work just fine, which we think would be great. But until Claris decides to change it, this is where we are.

Thanks Todd, thanks for clarifying. I wasn’t aware of that limitation.
