New File transfers using the Ottomatic Cloud Console

Hey y’all,

The Ottomatic Cloud Console has a new feature for moving files around easily!! gone are the days of having to Open up OttoDeploy and OttoFMS to send a file from one server to another, now you can just click a couple buttons in the Cloud Console and the files are on their way! Check out the video below for some details on the new feature.

Thanks John! It was partially inspired by your request for docs of the deployment pattern for this exact case, so you have a hand in this too!

That’s pretty fantastic.

Looks awesome. I’m assuming it will also move any external container data, Is that correct?

At the moment it does not move external container data as OttoFMS does not support that. Although, if I were an individual interested in moving external container data in a deployment I would keep an eye out for OttoFMS version announcements in the next couple of weeks.

How does this speed of transfer compare to pushing or pulling between servers using SFTP?

And what if any impact is there to performance of the source server? ( just want to make sure when moving production to another server if I should do so after hours)

I have not tested directly transferring files with FTP, but this is simply running a deployment behind the scenes, so if you’ve run installs of files with deployments it will be comparable to that speed. I suspect that SFTP is slightly faster, as this does do a build and send it across and all the fun things deployments do, but I am not completely sure.

Great stuff, this is in 4.8.0 right? Do you guys have a release date for that version yet?

This feature of OCC is available for all servers running OttoFMS. The container data support is coming in 4.8.0, which I expect to be releasing in about a week and a half (the week after Thanksgiving next week)
