I’m getting more and more reliant on using the Offsite Backups feature of OttoFMS to send backups to S3 storage.
Which makes me nervous, in a way. Is there any king of monitoring the copy of the file to the remote location, and raise some kind of alert / notification if the copy did not work as expected?
We currently have no way to do notifications for failed offsites. It gets logged in the otto-info.log file when they compete successfully, and a failed backup should also log an error.
With the advent of the notification system for the downloads in OttoFMS, we could probably add notifications for failed backups to the OttoFMS console. It would show up when you go to the page. Are you thinking of some sort of notification outside of OttoFMS (ie. Slack or a webhook)?
Hi Kyle - yeah, any kind of external trigger would be great. Webhook or Slack would both be workable. I guess web hook would be my preferred, for those of us who don’t use Slack.
Just adding my voice to this request. At times, I may need an easier way to know that a push to the offsite location is in progress. ( think like I am in the car driving across the state, and would be challenged to read the log itself )
Thoughts on ways to make that easier:
Status on the offsite settings screen.
Maybe a new tab/section like deployments, but for offsite backups. So we could see most recent runs, last status, etc.
External notifications ( like you talked about above )
