What if any operations (if any) are safe to do with prod as the source and dev as the destination? For example, is it reasonable to grab a fresh copy of production data while the office is out at lunch? Is it safe to migrate/install from Prod > dev without kicking everybody out? I imagine it would be a similar fact to running a back up or some operations may slow down your if your resources are constrained. But I figured I should ask. Thank you for this amazing tool.
Just my 2c but I think that’s safe. Otto to my understanding creates a backup schedule and does a back up of the source to get the copy for migration, rather than closing and copying files. So you can run a deployment while the source is still online and it should still remain online.
@weetbicks is right, OttoFMS only does FileMaker backups to create the source builds (unless you choose the option to close files for copies), which will pause the files for the duration of the backup. It usually takes only a few seconds, large files can take a bit longer.
The only other thing to think about is that running a build and sending the build across the network will introduce some load on the server and its network, so there may be some slowdowns if you are doing it at a time of high usage.
